The campus came alive with a distinct buzz in the air on Friday, 12th March, when the Wik Triathlon was held as an inter-house event. The usual event distances were shortened to allow the race to take place after school, with the swim section being 275m, the cycle 8km and the run 3.5km.
Our athletes were able to participate and represent their sports houses individually or as a team. It felt like the first real taste of “normality” in 12 months – the first time the whole school has been together for one single event since the lockdown began in March 2020.
The run section was compulsory for every single student and it was amazing to witness a sea of blue, yellow and red shirts run, jog and walk the route. A real show of solidarity.
Well done to all the athletes who took part! Results wise, Fenwick stole the show, with a total of 320 points. Gunther Katzke was the first athlete across the line who completed all three disciplines, followed by Jarryd Gosling in second and Tristan Brett in third. All three boys representing the blue brigade and racking up the points for Fenwick.
Lianke Fourie (Loomis) was the first female triathlete over the line followed by Heidi Katzke (Fenwick). Orvis came in second place with 203 points and had the most teams competing, taking second and third position among the teams. Loomis ended in third position with 160 points despite a great individual effort from Lianke.
A number of staff who had been training for the real Wik got together on the Saturday morning and created their own triathlon – well done to them.
