Geography Pupils Excel in Olympiad

A total of 30 Geography students from Stanford Lake College participated in the National Geography Olympiad earlier last term, on the 17th May, competing against 2807 pupils nationwide. Stanford Lake College was the top school in Limpopo. Benno Kotzé achieved an outstanding 13th position in the Olympiad, being in the top 1% in the country and was awarded one of only 30 platinum certificates. Jared Taylor-Smith was also among the top 5% in the country and Jack Tasker among the top 10%.


The Royal Geographical Society (RGS) set a second section in the Olympiad, where 2310 pupils competed. Benno Kotzé was the top Limpopo pupil and achieved 16th position nationally. Jack Tasker was also in the top 1% in the country. Both boys achieved platinum certificates. A number of other pupils were ranked in the top 5% in the country for this section: Marc Day, Koni Fobbe and Luke Fairhead. In the top 10% in the country were Gracie Fisher-Bowie, Mitch Williamson and Stefan Hacker. Kade Thompson, Claire Klinkert, Grant Cooper, Safiyyah Modan and Thato Moleya all managed to rank in the top 15% in the country. Well done to all of these pupils!
