01A number of Stanford Lake College pupils represented Limpopo in the National Junior Fly Fishing Competition held in Barkley East from 25th to the 29th September. Making up the Limpopo A-team were Marthinus Maritz, Andreas Hacker, Luke Fairhead, Jason Freestone and Kade Thomspon. Anglers in the B-side were Heinrich Maritz, Luke Wood, Lloyd Lombard, Sam Skipper, an exchange student from Australia, and Merensky pupil Ruan Hanaczeck-Kruger.
The A-team managed to claim second place in the National competition, with all the anglers receiving silver medals and Limpopo B-team took 5th place. Moreover, Marthinus Maritz took first place, receiving a gold medal and a trophy, in the National competition as the best individual angler. In the International competition (including anglers from the Czech Republic), Marthinus also took first place.
In addition, another competition between the South African Sport Anglers and Casting Confederation (SASACC), the Protea team and the Czech team took place. The SASACC team, of which Jason Freestone is part of, won bronze medals. The Proteas, of which Marthinus Maritz is part of, claimed silvers and the Czech Republic team took gold.
Well done, lads. This is a fantastic effort. You made Stanford Lake College and Limpopo extremely proud!
