U16 Hockey at Noordvaal

Sport

The SLC U/16 Hockey Boys team played in the Noordvaal B Section at Penryn College in Nelspruit from the 26th to the 28th of July. Two group games were played and SLC won both of them: 1-0 against Hoërskool Brits and Hoërskool Sasolburg, with the game against Sasolburg being won after the final buzzer. In the quarterfinals the boys played against Hoërskool Lichtenburg and won the game 2-1. The two goals scored were in the last 3 minutes of the game and, the same as the night before, the winning goal was scored after the final buzzer. SLC faced the hosts in the semi-final and played some brilliant hockey, but unfortunately lost 4-2 in the end with a late goal from Penryn. Next round was the play off for 3rd and 4th places, again against Hoërskool Sasolburg. SLC went down 1-0 and drew level with 8 minutes to go, but never gave up and demonstrated great character by winning the game in sudden death of 8 second shoot-outs. They showed their tenacity and kept working hard even when going a goal down, to come back and win those games. Well done, boys on a good season!
